Feature documentary «Queen of Paradis» directed by Carl Lindstrom about the making of Paradis's photo series «Midnight».
The process to create each image is a fully immersive journey which sometimes takes years to complete — and sometimes puts Paradis in harms way. But it’s her uncompromising resolve to ‘live’ each scene that takes her to the very limit of her ability.
Like Paradis’ artistic process, the viewer inevitably finds themself walking the line between the world as they know it, and a world where anything is possible.
Each scene is imagined and pre conceptualized before shooting in real locations. All the objects are meticulously designed and placed within the scene, along with Paradis herself as the central figure.
Below is a selection of conceptual maquettes which shows a part of the process behind the series.
Below are the conceptual mixed-media maquettes that are Paradis’ blueprints for each scene she creates. They are also the first expression of each vision.
From there, these maquettes will accompany Paradis as she designs and builds the props, scouts for locations, and frames her final scene.
Once a maquette is created, Paradis will not deviate from the original vision.
